a. Heavy Rescue 4: TRT equipment
b. RRT Trucks 19/20: HazMat/TRT equip
c. Air/Light/Power 20: Air/Light/Power
d. Rehab Van 21: FF rehabilitation
e. Brush Truck 6/21: Wildland fires

Operation records
- Recruits shall be responsible for entering accurate information on the required department apparatus record forms.
- Recruits will also be responsible to account for and forward all apparatus records as required to the PSA assigned Engineer.
Shop number
a. The four digit shop number (example: #8744) is assigned by fleet services and applies to the apparatus and mobile equipment when account for supplies, repairs, and expenditures.
b. This number is also used when referring to apparatus that are out of service for repairs, and reserve vehicles.
What to look for on the exterior walk around
a. Apparatus number
b. Damage
c. Loose equipment
d. Tire (pressure, wear, impaled objects)
e. Know where the equipment is located on the rig.
f. Missing equipment
g. Extinguishers: All TFD engines/ladders/ladder tenders carry:
i. Pressurized water
ii. Multipurpose dry-chem (ABC)
iii. CO2
Fluid stats
a. Recruits shall use gloves and eye protection including helmet with face shield down when checking fluids.
b. Engine oil: check for water in oil, milky color, dipstick, fill hole cap.
c. Radiator water: color, level, fill hole cap
d. Power steering: level, cap
e. Transmission: fluid level, color, dipstick, do not add
i. Truck should be running to check transmission fluid but off for oil.
f. Priming oil- level: ATF (We no longer had truck with priming oil)
g. Booster tank: level
h. Batteries: look for corrosion, bulging sides, loose cable, damage
Starting apparatus
a. Battery switch
i. Make sure it is unplugged beforehand.
b. Ignition switch
c. Starter switch or switches
d. If oil pressure does not come up to 20 psi within first few seconds, shut down apparatus immediately and notify Training Staff.
e. Fuel level- must be at one half or above.
f. Air pressure must be at least 90 psi in front and rear before moving an apparatus.
Testing lights
a. Emergency lights: pre-empt emitter
b. Head lights: brights
c. Tail lights: brake lights
d. Turn signals
e. Running lights
f. Clearance lights
g. Spot lights
h. Reverse lights
i. Hand lights
Testing audible devices
a. Test siren
b. Back-up alarm
c. Air horn
d. Back up horns:
i. 1 beep- STOP
ii. 2 beeps- FORWARD
iii. 3 beeps- BACKUP
e. Steering wheel horn
Compartments
a. Scott air pack: bottles at 4050 psi or above, if not it must be exchanged or fill.
b. Missing or broken equipment
c. Inventory of equipment is listed by compartment and is in the logbook.
d. Each cabinet on the truck has a list of what should be in there….
Apparatus log book
a. Legal document
b. Date
c. Mileage
d. Name
e. All items checked and any action taken.
Seatbelt rules
a. Seat belts will be worn without exception whenever recruits operate any fire apparatus.
b. Failure to wear your seatbelt will result in job jeopardy.
i. Twice will result in termination.
c. If you are the driver of an apparatus, you must ask if everyone is seatbelted before you put the truck in gear or remove the parking brake.
Backing a apparatus
d. Use the backup horn:
i. 1 Beep- stop
ii. 2 Beeps- move forward
iii. 3 Beeps- move backwards
e. There shall be at least one person at the rear of a vehicle that is backing up- helmet on, shield down. At all times!
f. Hand signals if tailboard horn is broken
