Testing for association (L9) Flashcards
What types of correlation do we use in this course
Positive, negative, linear and simple regression
What is correlation
it measures the relative strength of the linear relationship between two variables
What is the threshold for correlation effect sizes
±.1 = small effect
±.3 = medium effect
±.5 = large effect
What is regression analysis
Regression Analysis looks at how one number (like test scores) changes when another number (like study hours) changes.
differentiate correlation with regression
Correlation examines the relationship between variables without distinguishing between independent and dependent variables, while regression predicts the dependent variable’s values based on known independent variable values by fitting the best-fitting line to the data.
what is multiple linear regression vs simple linear regression
multiple investigates the relationship between two or more metric IVs and corresponding metric DV. while simple investigates just one.
what 3 things should be reported for correlation
significant positive or negative relationship - the size of r - S,M or L effect
