4 causes:
Age- 15-49 (most common 30-34)
Race- more common in white men
Family history- previous (eg dad= 6x more likely)
Smoking
3 ways of diagnosis:
Ultrasound scan- sound wave produce image
Blood test- sample of blood
Biopsy- removal of testical to test cells
4 types of treatment:
Orchidectomy- removal of testical - sperm banking
- testosterone replacement
Chemotherapy- anti- cancerous medicines
Radiation- high energy beams kill cells
Lymph node surgery- removal of lymph node
4 symptoms:
Dull ache/ sharp pain
Heaviness in scrotum/ fluid collection
Fatigue
Feeling unwell in general
Describe the care pathway to this:
GP refers them to a urology unit Get ultrasound scan and diagnosed Tell patient they have it Surgery at cancer unit Specialist at MDT discuss management Therapy to overcome the stress and problems caused
Patient centred care:
Choice eg getting inserted with prophesies Family- who involed? Information of the cancer How the treatment will happen Help with any questions or concerns Teach them how to mange it
