Symptoms of type 1 diabetes?
Fatigue
Unquenchable thirst
Weight loss
Needing to urinate a lot
Treatment:
Insulin injections, healthy diet, regular exercise
2-4 injections of insulin a day
Insulin pump
Transplant
Causes:
Inherited/ chance from a young age.
Social impacts
Not go out if blood sugar is not right
Can not eat the same as their friends
Can sometimes struggle when playing sport
Intellectual impacts:
Distraction in lesson when check blood sugar levels
Time of school if not the correct concentration
Emotional impacts:
Upset if not allowed to go out
May feel alone. No one else is the same
Care pathway:
Diagnosis Educated and informed Insulin therapy or oral therapy Dietary management Exercise Monitoring
What is type 1 diabetes?
The persons immune system destroys the beta cells and no insulin is produced and therefore blood sugar levels rise. It develops at a young age.
