Causes:
Genetics Brain development Neurotransmitters Pregnancy and birth complications Triggers= stress and drugs
Diagnosis:
GP refer you to ‘community mental health team’(CMHT) carry out more detailed assessment eg personal history/ current circumstances
Treatments for acute episodes:
Acute episode- crisis resolution team (CRT) home treatment
Voluntary/ compulsory detention- a psychiatric ward at hospital/clinic
General treatment:
Typical antipsychotics developed in 1950’s and 1990’s
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)- thinking patterns and replace with realistic thoughts
Family therapy- help cope better
Physical Impacts:
Head aches
Repeat episodes
Hallucinations
Financial impacts:
Leave work or do fewer hours to lessen stress
Emotional impacts:
Withdrawal Depression Lonely Anxiety Sad
Social impacts:
Cannot go out with friends or family

What is it?
A mental health condition causing hallucinations and delusions
