What is Brandy?

A

Brand is made from distilled wine. It is sometimes aged in oak casks and is usually bottled at 80 proof.

What are the 4 main categories of brandy?

A

Fruit (generally 80 to 90 proof and are distilled directly from the fruit itself. Can be made using pears, raspberries, blackberries, peaches, apricots, plums and cherries. Served chilled over ice.

American (Almost all distilled in California. lighter smoother characteristic than european brandy.)

Armagnac (Similar to Cognac, but different distillation method. Aged longer than cognac - between teens and age thirty - Only produced in Gascony, France)

Cognac (Produced in Cognac region of France and is double distilled in pot stills and aged in new oak casks for one year before it is transferred to used oak casks to age further.)
