How do wines get their colour?
By letting the grape skins soak in the juice during fermentation.
What are the two most common ways to store wine?
In Oak or Stainless Steel
If grape skins are left in the wine for only a short amount of time what do they make?
A rose or ‘blush’
Grapes grown in warm climates will produce a wine with a ______ acidity than grapes grown in cooler climates.
Lower. Warming climates result in high sugar low acid whereas cooler climates result in low sugar and high acid.
What is the substance in wine that causes a firm, mouth-drying feeling in your mouth?
Tannin.
If you have ever eaten the skin from a red grape and felt the way it dries out your mouth and gums then you have experienced tannin. Tannin mainly comes from seeds and stems.
Name several types of White Wine
Riesling, Gewerztraminer, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris/Pinot Grisgo, Sauvignon Blanc
Name several types of Red Wine
Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Shiraz/Syrah
What is the standard serving size for Red Wine?
Just under half a glass with a large goblet.
What is the standard serving size for White Wine?
Roughly two-thirds of a glass in a glass with a smaller narrower goblet.

Wine with a spirit added. eg: Vermouth
What is brandy?
A strong spirit distilled from wine or fermented fruit juice. It is sometimes aged in oak casks and is usually bottled at 80 proof.

- Neat (alcohol served with NO ice)
- Easy Ice (served with Less Ice than Usual)
- Loaded (Full Glass of Ice)
