Test 7 Flashcards
Latissimus dorsi
Origin: spines T7-L5
Insertion: intertubercle sulcus of humerus
Action: extends, adducts, medially rotates arm at shoulder joint, draws arm inferiorly and posteriorly. RMA: elevates vc and torso
Pectoralis major
Origin: clavicle, sternum, costal cartilage 2-6 ribs and 7
Insertion: greater tubercle and lateral lip of intertubercle sulcus of humerus
Action: adducts and medially rotates arm at shoulder joint
Deltoid
Origin: acromial of clavicle, acromion of scapula and spine of scapula
Insertion: deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Action: lateral fibers adduct arm at shoulder joint, anterior fibers flex and medially rotate arm at shoulder joint, posterior fibers extend and laterally rotate arm at shoulder joint
Subscapularis
Rotator cuff
Origin: subscapular fossa of scapula
Insertion: lesser tubercle of humerus
Action: medially rotates arm at shoulder joint
Supraspinatus
Rotator cuff
Origin: supraspinous fossa of scapula
Insertion: greater tubercle of humerus
Action: assists deltoid muscle in abducting arm at shoulder joint
Infraspinatus
Rotator cuff
Origin: infraspinous fossa of scapula
Insertion: greater tubercle of humerus
Action: laterally rotates arm at shoulder joint
Teres major
Origin: inferior angle of scapula
Insertion: medial tip of intertubercle sulcus of humerus
Action: extends arm at shoulder joint and assists in adduction and medial rotation of arm at shoulder joint
Teres minor
Rotator cuff
Origin: inferior lateral border of scapula
Insertion: greater tubercle of intertubercle sulcus of humerus
Action: laterally rotates and extends arm at shoulder joint
Coracobrachialis
Origin: coracoid process of scapula
Insertion: middle of medial surface of shaft of humerus
Action: flexes and adducts arm at shoulder joint
