Q

Name the Fontanelles that are present in a new born baby and give the approximate age of closure

A

Anterior Fontanelle (Bregma) closes at 18months- 2 years
Posterior Fontanelle (Lambda) closes at 3 months
Antero-Lateral Fontanelle (Pterion) closes at 3 months
Postero-Lateral Fontanelle (Asterion) closes at 1 year

Q

How does the occiput a newborn baby differ from that of an adult and at what age is it considered to be completely fused (A diagram may be helpful)?

A

Occiput in 4 portions separated by cartilage which gradually fuses during the first 6 years.
Squamous portion (Squama) posteriorly
Basilar portion (Basi-occiput) anteriorly
Two Condylar portions (lateral portions) laterally.

Condylar-Squamous cartilages fusing by the age of 3 years
Condylar-Basilar cartilages fusing by the age of 6 years

Cartilaginous areas are less able to self correct than membranous structures.

All areas of incomplete ossification are sites of potential distortion. Forms the Foramen Magnum and contributes to Jugular Foramina - both these areas particularly are particularly susceptible to distortion.

Q

How does the Sphenoid of a new born baby differ from that of an adult?

A

The Sphenoid is in 3 parts consisting of
A Central Body and Lesser Wings
The Right Greater Wing and Pterygoid Plates
The Left Greater Wing and Pterygoid Plates
These three parts are usually united within the first few months of birth

Q

Why is early treatment of Birth Trauma particularly recommended?

A

Early treatment is essential in order to enable complete resolution and recovery from birth trauma.
If left untreated the shock of the compressive and restrictive forces of birth becomes more deeply embedded in the system and also sets up a future pattern of how the system will handle stress and shock.
It is easier to undo the shock and trauma of birth at an earlier age and prevents the stacking of more life trauma on top.
Early release of any restrictions will enable balanced and healthy growth.
The longer a distortion pattern is left in the cranium the longer it will take to treat and the less complete the resolution.
Early treatment can help prevent early childhood conditions such as asthma, allergies, colic and can also help with any breast- feeding difficulties.
Complete resolution of birth patterns before bones fuse.

Q

What is Pyloric Stenosis

A

Is a condition caused by an enlarged pylorus. The pylorus is a muscle that opens and closes to allow food to pass through the stomach into the intestine. When this muscle becomes enlarged, feedings are blocked from emptying out of the stomach.
Common in infants- from birth to a few months old.

Q

How would you treat Pyloric Stenosis?

A

Occipital release to free up the Vegas nerve. Release shock and trauma using Solar Plexus and Cardiac Plexus contacts, treat the system as a whole. Direct contact just above the belly button.
