Test 3 Case Studies and Disorders Flashcards
Case studies and disorders
Solomon Shereshevsky and what he taught us
Never forgot anything, poems, speeches etc.
Everything was so literal he couldn’t find meaning in anything, he couldn’t recognize faces just focused on changes from face to face.
Memory was so distracting he couldn’t think abstractly.
Tells us we want to be able to weave integrated experiences together not just focus on this view to view distinction
Anomia
Brain damage patients can’t name some objects or can’t answer questions questions about object.
But only for one category, just for living vs manufactured, etc.
LH
Suffered brain damage in a car accident, and can’t judge appearance (color etc.)
-he still can scan an image or rotate it. He has had little disruption to spatial manipulations
Aphantasia
Can’t visualize anything
Hyperphantasia
Very clear picture in mind
Eliot
Had small brain tumor removed- IQ score stayed the same but very indecisive.
His damage to orbitofrontal cortex caused no emotions, no response to tragedy, aggression, arousal.
Led to paralyzing indecisiveness because decisions rely on risk- to evaluate risk we rely on emotion
Frontal lobe damage
More likely to not choose advantaged deck and take risks
