Particularly heated election between Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton. Trump famously used Twitter and other social media to bash Clinton and spread propaganda straight to his supporters. Clinton was the first female Democratic candidate for president, making her position as a nominee particularly important.
North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
controversial trade pact signed in 1992 that gradually eliminated most tariffs and other trade barriers on products and services passing between the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
9/11 Attack on the World Trade Center
a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Wahhabi terrorist group Al-Qaeda against the United States on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001.
Obergefell v. Hodges
the United States Supreme Court held in a 5-4 decision that same-sex marriage is protected under the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment. Consequently, same-sex marriage bans were struck down as unconstitutional.

American-Iraq War
protracted armed conflict that began in 2003 with the invasion of Iraq by a United States-led coalition that overthrew the government of Saddam Hussein. Between 151,000 and 1 million Iraqis were killed in the first three to four years of conflict. US troops were officially withdrawn in 2011.
Mueller Report
The Mueller report found that the Russian government “interfered in the 2016 presidential election in sweeping and systematic fashion” and “violated U.S. criminal law”. The report relayed two methods by which Russia attempted to influence the election.
