alae
wing-like processes (depressor alae nasi - facial muscle of the nose)

alaeque
pertaining to a wing-like structure (levator labii superior alaeque nasi - a muscle that arises from the nasal process of the maxilla, that passes downward and laterally, that divides into a part inserting into the alar cartilage and one inserting into the upper lip, and that dilates the nostril and raises the upper lip)

bucco-
pertaining to the cheeks (buccopharygeus - pertaining to the cheeks and the pharynx)

cerato-
pertaining to a horn (ceratopharyngeus - middle constrictor (muscle) of pharynx)

chondro-
pertaining to cartilage (chondropharyngeus - the muscle arising from the lesser cornu of the hyoid bone and forming part of the middle constrictor of the pharynx)

cranius
pertaining to the cranium (epicranius frontalis - frontal belly of epicranius muscle; with assistance from the occipital belly, pulls the scalp back so that the eyebrows are lifted and the forehead can wrinkle)

crico-
pertaining to the cricoid cartilage (cricopharyngeus - lowest constrictor muscle used to to close the glottis)

epi-
over or above (epicranius frontalis - frontal belly of epicranius muscle; with assistance from the occipital belly, pulls the scalp back so that the eyebrows are lifted and the forehead can wrinkle)

genio-
pertaining to the chin (genioglossus -

glosso-
pertaining to the tongue (glossopharyngeal - either of the ninth pair of cranial nerves that are mixed nerves and supply chiefly the pharynx, posterior tongue, and parotid gland)

-glossus
pertaining to the tongue (palatoglossus - A muscle, with insertion into the side of the tongue, with nerve supply from the pharyngeal plexus, and whose action raises the back of the tongue and narrows the anterior faucial pillars)

hyo-
pertaining to the hyoid (hyoglossus - A muscle with origin from the hyoid bone, with insertion to the side of the tongue, with nerve supply from the hypoglossal nerve, and whose action retracts and pulls down the side of the tongue)

incisivus
pertaining to the incisor teeth ( incisivus labii inferior - inferior incisive bundle of origin of orbicularis oris musculus)

labii
pertaining to the lips (levator labii superior - a facial muscle arising from the lower margin of the orbit and inserting into the muscular substance of the upper lip which it elevates)

mylo-
pertaining to the lower jaw (mylopharyngeus - superior phayngeal constrictor)

nasi
pertaining to the nose (columella nasi - the nasal skin investing the medial crura of the lower lateral cartilages and separating the nostrils; connects cephalically to the membranous septum, which invests the caudal end of the septal cartilage)

oculi
pertaining to the eye ( orbicularis oculi - ringlike band of muscle, called a sphincter muscle, that surrounds the eye)

oris
pertaining to the mouth (orbicularis oris - a muscle made up of several layers of fibers passing in different directions that encircles the mouth and controls most movements of the lips (such as compressing, closing, or pursing movements)

palato-
pertaining to the palate; typically the velum (palatoglossus - A muscle, with insertion into the side of the tongue, with nerve supply from the pharyngeal plexus, and whose action raises the back of the tongue and narrows the anterior faucial pillars)

-pharyngeus
pertaining to the pharynx (cricopharyngeus - lowest constrictor muscle used to to close the glottis)

pterygo-
pertaining to the pterygoid laminae (pterygopharyngeus - superior pharyngeal constrictor muscle)

salpingo-
pertaining to the Eustacian (auditory) tube (salpingopharyngeus - a muscle of the pharynx that arises from the inferior part of the eustachian tube near its opening and passes downward to join the posterior part of the palatopharyngeus)

stylo-
pertaining to the styloid process (stylopharygeus - a slender muscle that arises from the base of the styloid process of the temporal bone, inserts into the side of the pharynx, and acts with the contralateral muscle in swallowing to increase the transverse diameter of the pharynx by drawing its sides upward and laterally)

thyro-
pertaining to the thyroid cartilage (thyropharyngeus - inferior constrictor muscle of the pharynx)

veli palatini
pertaining to the velum (tensor veli palatini - a muscle found in the nasal pharynx that serves to tense the soft palate upon elevation and facilitates opening of the Eustacian tube)
