Terms Lab 12 Flashcards
Where is the sympathetic trunk located? (223-24)
Runs down the neck in the carotid sheath, along the dorsal aspect of the thorax and into the diaphragm
Where is the cervicothoracic ganglion located? (229-30)
Along the sympathetic trunk near the first rib
What is the cervicothoracic ganglion? (229-30)
Fusion of several cervical and thoracic ganglia
What is the vertebral nerve? (229-30)
A branch from the cervicothoracic ganglion
Where does the vertebral nerve travel? (229-30)
Dorsally from the cervicothoracic ganglion along with the vertebral artery through the traverse foramina
What is the ansa subclavia? (229-30)
Ventral branches of the cervicothoracic ganglion which form a loop around the subclavian artery
What is the vagosympathetic trunk? (119, 229)
Combined vagus nerve and sympathetic trunk
Where is the vagosympatheric trunk located? (119, 229)
Travels in the carotid sheath down the neck and into the thorax
Where is the vagus nerve located? (229)
Travels down the neck as the vagosympathetic trunk and follows the aortic arch and then splits into two branches; both L&R sides
What is the recurrent laryngeal nerve? (124, 229)
First branch off the vegus nerve
Where is the recurrent laryngeal nerve located? (124, 229)
Arises near the aorta then ascends the neck via the carotid sheath
What is the dorsal vagal trunk? (229-30)
Union of R&L dorsal vagal branches near the diaphragm
What is the ventral vagal trunk? (229-30)
Union of the R&L ventral vagal branches near the esophagus
Where does the vagus nerve branch into dorsal and ventral branches? (229-30)
Just caudal to the heart
What is epicardium?
It attaches to the outer surface of the heart; also known as visceral pericardium
