Dorsally from the cervicothoracic ganglion along with the vertebral artery through the traverse foramina

Ventral branches of the cervicothoracic ganglion which form a loop around the subclavian artery

Combined vagus nerve and sympathetic trunk

Travels in the carotid sheath down the neck and into the thorax

Travels down the neck as the vagosympathetic trunk and follows the aortic arch and then splits into two branches; both L&R sides

First branch off the vegus nerve

Arises near the aorta then ascends the neck via the carotid sheath

Union of R&L dorsal vagal branches near the diaphragm

Union of the R&L ventral vagal branches near the esophagus

Just caudal to the heart
What is epicardium?
It attaches to the outer surface of the heart; also known as visceral pericardium
What is parietal pericardium?
It is made up of two layers; a serous layer and a fibrous layer
What is the outermost layer covering the heart?
Mediastinal pleura
What is the coronary groove?
Depression which contains the coronary vessels; line that separates the atria and ventricles; circles heart
What does the right atrium receive?
It receives blood from systemic veins and coronary veins
Where is the right atrium located in the dog? (231-32)
On the right side; cranially
Where is the right auricle located in the dog? (229-30)
On the right side; cranial to the atrium
Where are the pectinate muscles located?
In the auricles
Where does the vena cava (2 parts) enter the heart? (229-30)
Enters the right atrium (caudal and cranial)

Enters the right atrium just ventral to the caudal vena cava
