Term 1 Exam Yr 9 .2 Flashcards
What is a convex Lense
Convex lenses are thicker at the middle. Rays of light that pass through the lens are brought closer together (they converge). A convex lens is aconverging lens.
When parallel rays of light pass through a convex lens the refracted rays converge at one point called thefocal point.
What is a concave lense
Concave lenses are thinner at the middle. Rays of light that pass through the lens are spread out (they diverge). A concave lens is adiverging lens.
When parallel rays of light pass through a concave lens the refracted rays diverge so that they appear to come from one point called thefocal point.
What charge is a protons
Protons = positive charge (+)
What charge is a neutron
Neutrons = no charge (neutral)
What charge is a electron
Electrons = negative charge (-)
What is current
Current is a measure of how fast electrons are moving in a circuit
The flow of electrons (charge) in a circuit is called the current
The symbol for current (I)
It is measured in amperes or amps (A)
Current is measured using an AMMETER
What is a volatge
Voltage is a measure of how much energy an electron has
The symbol for voltage is (V)
It is measured in volts (V)
Voltage is measured using a voltmeter
What is resistance
Resistance is a measure of how difficult it is for an electric current to flow through a material or component & is measured in ohms.
High resistance = hard for electrons to flow
Low resistance = easy for electrons to flow
The symbol for resistance is R
Resistance is measured in
Ohm’s (Ω)
Particle theory
All matter is made up of tiny particles
Particles are constantly in motion
There are spaces between particles
Particles are attracted to each other
How does heat travel
Hot to Cold
