Term 1 Diagnostic Flashcards
Matter
Matter is everything around us
States of Matter
Liquid
Gas
Solid
Law of Conservation of Matter
States that matter can not be created or destroyed but changes state or form
Particle Model
The particle theory of matter is a model that describes the arrangment and movement of particles in a sunstance
Energy
Enerdy is a property of matter. It can be transferred between objects and transfromed
Laws of Conservation of Energy
The Law of Conservation of energy states that energy can never be created or destoryed. It can only be converted from one form to another
Heat
Is the transfer of thermal energy between objects with different temperatures
Radiation
Is the transfer of heat that does not reply on contact then enrgy can travel through empty space
Temperature
Temperature is a measure of how hot something is
Conductor
substance that transfer heat easily are conductors
Insulator
Plastic, air, cloth, wood and rubber are poor conductors of heat and can sometimes block heat transfer completely
Frequency
The numver of waves that pass a given point in one second
Wavelength
The distnance from one crest to another, or from one trough to another of wave
Amplitude
a measurment of the amount of energy transferred by a wave
Transverse
Particle movement is at right angles to the motion of the wave
Longitudinal
Longitudinal wave particles vibrate forward and backwards in the direction of the wave. They form areas of compression and rarefaction
Electromagnetic Spectrum
All the range and frequencies are placed on a spectrum
There are low-energy waves and high energy waves
Reflection
Occurs when light travelling through one material bounces off a diffrent material
Incident Ray
Same angle of reflection
Reflected Ray
Same angle of incident
Angle of Incidence
The angle of incidence is equal to angle of reflection
Angle of Reflection
The angle of reflection is equal to angle of incednce
Luminous
Give of light
