Tensor Fasciae Latae Flashcards
From where does the tensor fasciae latae originate and insert?
The tensor fasciae latae arises from the outer surface of the anterior superior iliac spine, and part of the outer border of the notch below it, between the gluteus medius and sartorius. It inserts between the two layers of the iliotibial tract of the fascia latae about the junction of the middle and the upper third of the thigh. The terminal insertion point lies on the lateral condyle of the tibia.
Which nerve innervates the tensor fasciae latae?
The tensor fasciae latae in innervated by the superior gluteal nerve, L5 and S1.
Which movements does the tensor fasciae latae contribute to?
Primarily hip extension (stabilizing to assist gluteus maximus) and hip abduction, in addition to lateral rotation and hip flexion.
