Adductor Magnus Flashcards
What are the two parts of the adductor magnus?
The pubofemoral portion, or adductor minimus, is part of the medial compartment of the thigh. The ischiocondylar portion is part of the posterior compartment and is usually considered part of the hamstrings.
Where does the pubofemoral, or adductor, portion of the adductor magnus originate and insert?
The pubofemoral portion, or the adductor minimus, has fibers that originate from the ramus of the pubis and insert into the rough line of the femur leading from the greater trochanter to the linea aspera, in addition to fibers from the ramus of the ischium that insert into the linea aspera by means of a broad aponeurosis.
Where does the ischiocondylar, or hamstring, portion of the adductor magnus originate and insert?
The ischiocondylar portion originates from the tuberosity of the ischium, descends almost vertically in coarse bundles, and ends in a rounded tendon which inserts into the adductor tubercle on the medial condyle of the femur.
Which nerves innervate the adductor magnus?
The pubofemoral portion is innervated by the posterior branch of the obdurator nerve, while the ischiocondylar portion is innervated by the sciatic nerve.
