tendons, ligaments, osteoporosis & muscular hypertrophy. Flashcards
What do tendons do?
Attach muscle to bone.
What do ligaments do?
Attach bone to bone
How?
With regular weight training/ weight bearing exercises tendons and ligaments adapt and become stronger, thicker and more elastic.
Why would this be beneficial?
Reduces the risk of injuries, such as joint sprains as well as dislocation.
What is muscular hypertrophy?
Weight training (to improve muscular strength) = heavy weight, low repetitions.
(to improve muscular endurance) = light weight, high repetitions.
What does muscular hypertrophy impact?
Muscular strength, power and muscular endurance.
What is osteoporosis?
A health condition that weakens bones, making them fragile and more likely to break.
What reduces the risk of osteoporosis?
Regular weight bearing exercise results in increased bone density.
