What are the characteristics of a long bone?
Longer than they are wide.
What are long bones important for?
Movement and they support the weight of the body.
Give examples of long bones.
Femur, Humerus, Fibula
What are the characteristics of a short bone?
Long as they are wide.
What are short bones important for?
Little to no movement, provide support and stability.
Give examples of short bones.
Carsals, Tarsals.
What are the characteristics of a flat bone?
Usually thin, many of them have broad surfaces for attachment.
What are flat bones important for?
Protecting vital organs.
Give examples of flat bones.
Pelvis, Cranium, Ribs, Sternum.
What are the characteristics of an irregular bone?
Have odd shapes and perform a range of functions.
Give examples of an irregular bone.
Patella.
