16
Q

Define power. Use the equation.

A

The ability to exert strength at speed. Power = Strength x Speed.

17
Q

How does power help athletes? Use a sporting example.

A

It means that in explosive events, like jumping, it allows them to jump higher and further. In boxing it allows them to throw a punch faster and harder.

18
Q

What is the fitness test for power?

A

Vertical jump.

19
Q

Define Co-ordination.

A

The ability to use more than one body part together.

20
Q

How does co-ordination help athletes? Use a sporting example.

A

It allows athletes to produce complex actions from a number of smaller movements. For example hand-eye co-ordination when throwing and catching in cricket.

21
Q

What is the fitness test for co-ordination?

A

30 Second wall-toss.

22
Q

Define agility.

A

The ability to change directions at speed with control.

23
Q

How does agility help athletes? Use a sporting example.

A

It helps games players (e.g basketballers, footballers) dodge their opponents or move around them to get closer to the goal.

24
Q

What is the fitness test for agility?

A

Illinois agility run.

25
Q

Define reaction time.

A

The time taken between the presentation of a stimulus and the inset of movement.

26
Q

How does reaction time help athletes? Use a sporting example.

A

It helps them get a head start, e.g a 100m sprinter would need good reaction time in order to take the lead in their race.

27
Q

What is the fitness test for reaction time?

A

Ruler drop test.

28
Q

Define speed.

A

The ability to cover a set amount of distance in a set amount of time.

29
Q

How does speed help athletes? Use a sporting example.

A

It allows them to take the lead in their performance e.g 100m sprinter.

30
Q

What is the fitness test for speed?

A

30m sprint
