Tendon and Aponeurosis Flashcards

1
Q

Tendons

A
  • muscles are attached to bones by clearly recognizable tissue structures termed tendons
  • a flexible but inelastic cord of strong fibrous collagen tissue attaching a muscle to a bone

Q

Aponeuroses

A
  • Tendons vary in form from cord-like structures to sheet-like structures usually associated with sheet-like muscles and termed aponeuroses
  • a sheet of pearly white fibrous tissue which takes the place of a tendon in sheet-like muscles having a wide area of attachment

Q

Synovial Bursa

A
  • In locations where tendons reflect closely around bony prominences a synovial bursa may intervene
  • This is a sac-like structure lined by a thin synovial membrane, which produces synovial fluid
  • This helps lubricate the passage of the tendon around the bony structure
  • Similar structures termed synovial sheaths are found wrapped around tendons passing through enclosed or tunnel-like gaps
