Tendon and Aponeurosis Flashcards
1
Q
Tendons
A
- muscles are attached to bones by clearly recognizable tissue structures termed tendons
- a flexible but inelastic cord of strong fibrous collagen tissue attaching a muscle to a bone

2
Q
Aponeuroses
A
- Tendons vary in form from cord-like structures to sheet-like structures usually associated with sheet-like muscles and termed aponeuroses
- a sheet of pearly white fibrous tissue which takes the place of a tendon in sheet-like muscles having a wide area of attachment

3
Q
Synovial Bursa
A
- In locations where tendons reflect closely around bony prominences a synovial bursa may intervene
- This is a sac-like structure lined by a thin synovial membrane, which produces synovial fluid
- This helps lubricate the passage of the tendon around the bony structure
- Similar structures termed synovial sheaths are found wrapped around tendons passing through enclosed or tunnel-like gaps
