1

Q

what is the difference in tendons surrounded by paratendon and a tendon sheath?

A

if the tendon moved in a straight line, surrounded by paratendon (bv’s coiled in loose alveolar tissue of paratendon)
if the tendon goes over bony prominence, its surrounded by a tendon sheath

Q

what is a tendon sheath and its purpose?

A

double layered tubular structure filled with synovial fluid- the inner layer surrounds the tendon, allowing for glide

Q

what does tendonitis result from?

A

microtearing of the tendon fascicles due to overloading of the tendon, with resulting inflammatory response

Q

what is the grading for tendonitis?

A

grade 1: pain on activity only
grade2: pain at beginning, disappears during, returns after
grade 3: pain at beginning, during and after activity - pain may restrict activity
grade 4: pain with ADL’s and continues to get worse

Q

whats the difference between paratendinosis, tenosynovitis, and tenovaginitis?

A

para: inflammation of paratendon or tendon sheath
tenosynovitis: irritation of inner surface of sheath
tenovaginitis: irritation and thickening of the sheath itself

Q

where is the iliopectineal bursae and its pain referral?

A

btwn the iliopsoas and iliofemoral mm (1-2 cm inferior to middle third of inguinal lig)
Pain is at anterior hip and may radiate down anterior leg due to pressure on the femoral nerve

Q

where is the ischial bursa and its pain referral?

A

btwn glute max nd ischial tuberosity

pain refers down posterior leg - similar to sciatic pain

17
Q

where is the pes anserine bursae located?

A

between the tendons of sartorius, gracilis and ST mm and medial tibia

18
Q

where is the prepatellar bursa located?

A

lower half of patella, patellar ligament and skin

19
Q

where is the retrocalcaneal bursa located?

A

between achilles tendon and calcaneus
