What are the CI’s for muscle spasms?
A
- do not remove reflex mm guarding in acute
- avoid passive stretching to acutely spasmodic muscle
- no hot hydro in acute if inflammation is present
- no local massage if DVT suspected

What are the CI’s for frictions?
A
- do not use if pt is taking anti-inflammatories
- do not use on proud flesh, keloid scars, or systemic inflammatory conditions

What are the CI’s for burns?
A
- no oil around the wound site
- no circulatory tqs distal to wound
- modify hydro to affected area
- avoid direct contact with blisters/open wounds
- no active resisted in acute
- caution with stretching in first 2 weeks
- do not remove protective mm splinting
- no on-site work

What are the general CI’s for inflammatory arthritides?
A
- no provocative testing except aROM
- no hot hydro on inflamed areas
- fever = NO TX
- no lymph drainage
- no circulatory tqs distal to swollen areas
- joint mobs ONLY btwn flareups
- do not mobilize fused or unstable joints

What are some specific CI’s for RA?
A
- no mobilization tqs to C spine without imaging if pt c/o neck pain
- no long or aggressive tqs (fatiguing)
- use mm setting when treating spasms that may protect joints
- no cold hydro to affected jts between flareups

What are some CI’s for strains?
A
- do not remove protective mm splinting in acute
- do distal circulatory tqs in acute/early subacute
- no hot hydro proximal to casted body parts
- no remex in acute grade 2 or 3!!!

What are some CI’s specific to sprains?
A
- no testing in acute other than pain-free AROM
- do NOT attempt to restore full ROM with grade 3 sprains (surgical repair)
- no joint play of unstable joints
