What is a part time member of staff
Permanent member of staff who work fewer than 30 hours a week
What is a full time member of staff
Permanent member of staff who works 35 - 40+ hours per week
What are temporary staff
Staff employed on a short term basis, often at specific times of the year
Example: Retailers employing more temporary staff in the customer service department in November and December, so that they can deal with customer needs. - They may work 40 hours per week, but they only work with the organisation for a short period of time. - Maybe even more staff at certain times in the day (security at night due to more crime)
What are some benefits of using part time/ temporary staff
Gives a business flexibility
May incur lower costs - lower hourly pay
If recruited by an agency, time is saved in the recruitment process

Induction and training costs
The skill level of part time/ temporary staff
Motivational Issues - They probably won’t be in that industry in a few years, and are probably just doing the job to get paid

Used to help a business match supply to demand
What are zero hour contracts
Zero-hour contracts are employment agreements where the employer doesn’t guarantee a fixed number of working hours for the employee. Instead, the employee is only called in to work as and when needed.
