Production technology Flashcards
What is production technology
Production Technology is all about using tools, machines, and electronics to make industries work better.
What are robotics
The programming of machines to perform repetitive tasks on a production line
What are robotics
The programming of machines to perform repetitive tasks on a production line
Examples:
Manufacture of cars
Sorting of vegetables into different sizes
Packaging or labelling
What are some pros of robotics
Products are standardised and made to the same specification
Could benefit from economies of scale if there is a higher output
Can considerably increase capacity
What are some cons of robotics
High set up and maintenance costs
lack of innovation
lack of flexibility
What is communication technology
The use of technology to convey a message from a sender to a receiver
(Example: when a store is running low on a certain product, the system will automatically place an order for the stock from the supplier).
What are examples of communication technology
Internal communications: order processing, data collecting and statistical analysis.
External communications: To suppliers and customers.
What is cad and cam
Computer aided design - Can be very useful in the process of designing, as you can manipulate elements a lot more than when you don’t use technology.
Computer aided manufacture
Pros of using technology
Reduced unit costs
increase capacity
increased productivity
Increased consistency in quality and production time
Ability to match supply to demand
