Prosthetics, source of embolus, abnormal LV/Ao, CHD, masses, trauma, valvular disease

Closer to the heart, better views for TDS, less invasive than OHS, no lungs/ribs
Name 3 disadvantages
Invasive, patient discomfort, complications, expertise required
What needs to be done to prep the patient?
Informed consent, history, IV, physical (ECG, BP, etc), medications
Name 2 absolute and 2 relative contraindications
Absolute: esophageal strictures/masses, recent upper GI bleed/surgery, noncooperative patient, respiratory depression
Relative: coagulation issues, restricted neck mobility, esophageal trauma/surgery, esophageal varices, dysphagia, sleep apnea
Name 3 complications
Dental trauma, esophageal trauma/bleed, aspiration, dislodgement of other medical tubes, sore throat
Benzocaine
Topical anesthesia
Valium/benzodiazepine
Sedation
Flumazenile/lidocaine
Reversal agents
Epinephrine/atropine
For bradycardia
