Diseases Of The Great Vessels Flashcards
What are two main causes of aortic dilation?
Bicuspid AV and hypertension
What is associated with Marfan syndrome?
Sinus & Ao dilation
What is ascending & sinus dilation associated with?
Marfan syndrome and inflammatory disease
What is Marfan Syndrome?
A connective tissue disorder
Which coronary sinus is most likely to rupture?
RT coronary, ruptures into RVOT
What is a typical Takayasu’s arteritis feature?
Areas of aneurysm/narrowing repeated, dilated ascending Ao
What is the Stanford classification of dissection?
Stanford A: ascending +/- other parts
Stanford B: anything other than ascending
What is Debakey classification of dissection?
I: originates at ascending Ao
II: confined to ascending Ao
III: originates in descending Ao
Compare the Stanford and Debakey classifications
I = A II = A III = B
How to differentiate true and false lumen when there is an Ao dissection?
True lumen: echo free and oval/round in shaped, forward flow during systole
False lumen: crescent shaped and sometimes can contain thrombus/smoke, expands during diastole, does not fill fully with colour
A congenital luminal narrowing of the aorta due to a posterior shelf
Coarctation of the Aorta (CoA)
What type of AV is a coarctation associated with?
Bicuspid AV
