Duties
1) Data entry of prescription medication information.
2) The collection of demographic information for the patient profile and retrieval of prescription files, patient files, and other records.
2) Label preparation.
3) Counting, weighing, measuring, pouring, and compounding of prescription medication.
4) Filling automated medication systems.
5) Accepting authorization from a patient for a prescription refill, or from a practitioner or his or her agent for a prescription renewal, provided that the prescription remains unchanged.

Greater than 1: 2 Ratio
1) Establish, and ensure that all pharmacy technicians are knowledgeable about, written job descriptions, task protocols, and policies and procedures that pertain to the duties performed by the pharmacy technicians and can be provided to the Board, upon request.
2) Ensure and document that all pharmacy technicians who are working when the ratio exceeds 1:2 have passed either the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination (PTCB) or a Board-approved certification program, or have completed a Board-approved program that includes a testing component.
3) Ensure that the duties assigned to any pharmacy technician do not exceed the established job descriptions, task protocols, and policies and procedures.
4) Ensure and document that each pharmacy technician receives in-service training before the pharmacy technician assumes their responsibilities.
5) Require and maintain on site a signed patient confidentiality statement from each technician.
6) Provide immediate personal supervision.
