Requirements for Pharmacists
- application + photo +fee
- 18 years of age
- good moral character
- Graduated w/BS in pharmacy of 5 year course or PharmD school
- Intern hours -1440 hours needed if graduated >2yrs
- pass Naplex and MPJE (after board receives transcript and ATT from NABP)
- Good moral character and criminal background check (fingerprinting)
Graduates from Foreign country (not accredited by ACPE or equivalent )
- 18 years of age + initial licensure application + passport photo + application fee
- Graduated with BS w/5 yrs of study or PharmD
- valid certification from Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee of NAPB
- 1440 intern hours - register as intern and complete hours in 2 yrs
- Pass NAPLEX and MPJE (after board receives transcript and ATT from NABP)
- good moral character and criminal history background check
Examination score
Min of 75 for passing
RPH license renewal
Biennial - every 2 years
notify board of name change, address
30 days
CE hours
1 credit = 1 hr
30 credits
10 credits of didactic instruction (in person instruction via telephone, or electronic that is interactive. not videotaped)
3 credits = pharamacy law applicable to practice of pharmacy in NJ
1 credit = prescription opioid drugs/can not be carried over
2 = immunizations
collabrative rph = 10 hours related to topic in agreement
CE hours
1 hour = 1 credit
teaching and research (not full time basis) = 3 credits for each program max of 6 credits
Preceptor in externship = 3 credits per student; max of 6 credits
preceptor for internship= 3 credits per 160 hours of work; max of 6 credits
publication = 3 credits per article ; max 6 credits
PIC
employed for a minimum of 35 hours per week.
PIC only at one pharmacy or if retail and hospital
Good moral Character
- NOT presently engaged in drug or alcohol use likely to impair ability to practice pharmacy - at this time or anytime within previous 365 days
- not convicted of violating any law of any state relating to controlled dangerous substances or other habit forming drugs
- not been convicted of violating any law relating to practice of pharmacy
- convicted of crime involving moral turpitude
- has not had license suspended or revoked in any jursidiction pertaining to practice of pharmacy
Reciprocal Licensure
- 18 yrs of age + application + passport size ID
- Fee
- Graduated from BS in pharmacy or PharmD
- 1500 hours in pharmacy practice in last two years
- Pass MPJE after submitting all required documentation to board
- Good moral character and criminal background check
- Same for foreign graduates/pharmacist s
Display of license
Displayed conspicuously in view of public in pharmacist place of employment
- IF at more than one pharmacy - carry wallet size license
Replacement License
Pay fee and proof of identity and reasonable proof that license was loss or return to board for destruction
Name change on license
submit proof of name change or certified copy of court order/ marriage certificate (retained by board)
pay fee then return initial license and replacement license is issued
License Renewal
at least 60 days prior to expiration
Submit RENEWAL Application + fees
Inactive
shall not engage in practice of pharmacy or hold himself eligible to engage in practice in NJ
Late Renewal
Within 30 days of expiration = renewal application + RENEWAL FEE + Late FEE
“License valid and licensee shall not be deemed practicing without a license”
Suspended license
IF not renewed Within 30 days of expiration and license suspended without a hearing
License reACTivation = INACTIVE
- Renewal application
- List of employment during time (name, address, phone # )
- renewal fee for biennial period (if during first yr then full fee, if during second year pay 1/2 fee)
- CE credits during period prior to renewal period (if rph in another state then goes by that state’s CE requirements)
- Board may require applicant to pass examination or assessment, refresher course or other requirements if they deem practice deficencies
License Suspension

Breaks
1) The pharmacist shall remain in the pharmacy or, in the case of a pharmacy department, in the pharmacy department building, and shall be accessible for emergencies or for counseling if requested.
2) The pharmacy shall remain open during the restroom or meal breaks, provided a pharmacy employee remains present in the pharmacy, for patient-related services, which include, but are not limited to, the following:
a) The receipt of new written prescriptions.
b) The dispensing of prescription medications that have been checked by the pharmacist.
During breaks
Pharmacy employees may receive new written prescriptions and dispense prescription medications that have been checked by the pharmacist
Drive thru windows
Must have hours that the pharmacy is open and the name of the pharmacist-in-charge in plain view of the public
