-when a computer system is used to create or modify a design

-allows designer and customer to have an idea of what’s the finished product will look like
-lead to more accurate design process meaning less wastage
-amendments can be made to designs without having to redo drawings which saves time
What is computer aided manufacturer (CAM)?
Uses machines that are controlled by computers in the manufacturing process
What are advantages of CAM?
-reduces the risk of human error and ensures consistency across all products produced
-allows the business to save on labour costs and operate 24/7
What is a disadvantage of CAM?
Can be expensive and production is reliant on the technology not breaking down
What are advantages of robotics?
-robots can reduce labour costs and carry out repetitive work
-often used in conditions where employees wouldn’t be allowed to work for health and safety reasons
-reduce the need for supervision and can reduce wage costs
What is electronic point of sale (EPOS)?
Computer systems that are used by retailers to allow the customer to pay for goods
What are advantages of EPOS?
-can be used to aid inventory control as an up to date record of inventory can be kept electronically
-used to automatically reorder inventory

-aid delivery process
-can be used by customers and businesses to track packages and get info on delivery updates
-aid stock control as part of EPOS system
What are advantages of databases?
-allow businesses to store info on inventory, which can then be easily searched
-reports can generate automatically to help aid decision making process
What is the advantage of emails?
Can be used by the operations department to contact suppliers and place orders

Can be used by the operations department to find suppliers, source ethical suppliers and compare prices
