Teams Flashcards
Team
People who come together to achieve a clear goal they have participated in defining and are governed by clear rules.
Team Development
Forming - coming together
Storming - conflict arises
Norming - developing rules to resolve conflict
Performing - high achievement and goal commitment
Adjourning - team disbands
Groupthink
Team members commit to a course of action rather than considering alternatives. Result of high cohesion, pressure to reach consensus, limited information, isolation and/or a leader who promotes the solution as the only option.
Effective Teams
Understand and have high commitment to goals, can turn communication into ideas and manage group dynamics.
Team Failure
Result of a lack of goals (group not team), little empowerment, unclear objectives, poor leadership/team development, excessive requirements and lack of skill.
Minority Influence
New ideas reflect the minority. This must occur for organisations to change.
Group Diversity
Allows for greater expertise and the development of new ideas and perspectives.
Categorisation
Minimises in-group differences and maximises out-group differences
Team Decision Making
Requires understanding, shared plans and clear goals.
Team Effectiveness Model
1a. Defining (goals/objectives)
1b. Action (how goals will be achieved)
1c. Interpersonal (motivation, conflict etc)
2 Moderators (task interdependence and team size)
3 Team effectiveness - outputs meet or exceed standards of quality, quantity and timeliness while enhancing wellbeing and satisfaction of employees.
