Organisational Culture Flashcards
Organisational Culture
Underlying values, beliefs and attitudes that provide the foundation for the organisation.
Socialisation
Process by which new employees are assimilated into the organisational culture.
Subcultures
Smaller cultures that reflect differing experiences and situations within the organisation.
Enhancing Subculture
General adherence to the organisational culture but identify more strongly with particular values.
Orthogonal Subculture
Endorse core values but also hold other (possibly conflicting) beliefs.
Counter Subculture
Challenge the fundamental values of the organisation which can lead to conflict and/or culture change.
Changing Culture
Often occurs when crisis or conflict arises. Managers become role models for change and socialisation processes are altered. People who endorse the new values are selected and promoted.
