Safety Culture
Attitudes, values and behaviours which a group of people share with regards to risk and safety.
Safety Climate
Perceived state of safety at a particular place and time (snapshot).
Levels of Safety Culture
Pathological - complete lack of concern for safety
Rule Driven - don’t embrace safety, but comply to avoid punishment (fines)
Mature - safety is an important part of the organisation and processes often exceed requirements
Just Culture
When errors are made, employees are not punished. Errors are seen as a failure of the organisation, not the individual.
Reporting Culture
Organisation provides opportunity to anonymously report safety breeches and the importance of doing this is ingrained into the organisations culture.
