What is a team?
2 or more people who work interdependently over some time period in order to accomplish common goals related to some task-oriented purpose
Input process output framework
Input: team interdependence, team composition.
Process: task work process, teamwork process, team states
Output: team performance, team member attitudes, team member turnover
Tuckman’s stage of group development
Forming, storming, norming, performing, adjourning
Punctuated equilibrium theory
Initial team meeting: members make assumptions and establish a pattern that lasts for the first half of its life
Midway point: members realize that they have to change their work model fundamentally to complete it on time
Team interdependence
The way members of a team are linked to one another
Goal interdependence
Members have shared vision of team’s goals and align personal goals with that vision
Outcome interdependence
Members are linked in terms of outcomes they receive
Task interdependence
The degree to which team members interact and rely on each other for the info, materials, and resources to accomplish team tasks
Pooled interdependence
Groups members complete their work assignments independent and then this work is simply piled up to represent the groups output
Sequential interdependence
Different tasks are done in a prescribed order and the group is structured such that the members specialize in these tasks
Reciprocal interdependence
Members are specialized to perform specific tasks and members interact with a. Subset of other members to complete the teams work
Comprehensive interdependence
Each member has a great deal of discretion in terms of what they do and with whom they interact in the course of collaborating on the teams product
