What to do when you walk in the room
- upbeat
- smile
- eye contact
- shake hands possibly
- give your name
- explain role
- ask permission
1 start
- set out your aims
- understand their current knowledge
- what you’re hoping they’ll get from the conversation
2 bulk of explanation
- use simple relatable language
- stick to the point
- short and concise
3 - checking
Do you understand DONT SAY
Get them repeat back what you’ve said congratulate them for what they get right and re explain what they don’t
4 - Rounding up and questions
- check if they have any questions (If you don’t know the answer to the question be honest and tell them a solution to get the info eg you can find out more at this website or I can find out from the gp)
- thank them for their time
An example of where you taught someone
Elephant’s toothpaste is a foamy substance caused by the quick decomposition of hydrogen peroxide using yeast and warm water as a catalyst. How rapidly the reaction proceeds will depend on the concentration of hydrogen peroxide
They are more interested in seeing the reaction this was a lesson to make catalysts more fun .
