What is your position in the Great Falls band?
As a senior, I am the assistant section leader of the drum line
What is your involvement in “Hell Week”?
I helped plan some of the events for Hell Week
What did you tell Chuck about the drum line?
I told Chuck how our drum line is a big family who tries giving back to the community. Members are known to help each other out later in life, and for throwing great parties
What did you hear Chris say to Chuck on the first day of band camp?
On the first day of camp, Chris said to Chuck, “if you really want to impress us, you can hang the bands flag on the top of the clock tower,”
What was Chuck like?
Chuck was reserved, but he would come out of his shell when he talked about his plans to be a section leader and when he drinked
What did the upperclassmen think about Chuck?
Most of the upperclassmen didn’t like him. If you didn’t know Chuck that well, he could be mistaken as a little stuck-up. Chris was offended by Chuck’s personality, especially when he turned down Chris’s offer for Chuck to go out with this clarinet player
What was “Hell Night”?
It is the night when upperclassmen give harmless pranks for the pledges to do.
Who planned Chuck’s activity?
Chris
Did Chris say anything about Chuck’s task?
Chris told me he was planning something special for Chuck on Hell Night. He then added, “Hell Night will give Chuck a permanent attitude change.” He refused to add anything else
Was Chuck a drinker?
I love to party myself, so I could tell right away he was a drinker
What would you and Chuck talk about?
We would have long discussions, where I found out he put a lot of pressure on himself. He also said he wholeheartedly wanted to be the section leader by the time he was a senior.
Did Chuck come to you on advice for making the drum line?
Yes, I suggested he do something spectacular to impress us
Was Pat jealous of Chuck being friends with you?
Chuck did say that Pat could get a little jealous whenever he made new friends
Did you think Pat could make the drum line?
No, I could tell right away that Pat didn’t seem to have what it takes
Would Chuck have given up the drum line for someone else?
No, Chuck told me that while he would always be friends with Pat, he would not give up the drum line for him.
What do you know about Pat?
I never met him, but I did hear from Chuck that he/she became jealous when Chuck made new friends. Also, during one of the activities that Chris and I planned, Chris let things go out of hand, and Pat had an asthma attack and passed out. I do know that Chris and a couple of the other upperclassmen visited him in the hospital.
What happened on August 14th, or “Hell Night”?
The upperclassmen took all of the pledges out, blindfolded, one by one to do a single, harmless task to scare the pledges. Whenever Chris brought Chuck out, I heard him whisper into his ear the words “tower” and “flag”. Chuck then took off the blindfold, grabbed the flag, and ran towards the clock tower with Chris, myself, and a couple of others in toe. Chris was in lead, and by the time I caught up Chuck had already fallen off
Did you hear Chris tell Chuck anything as he was bringing him outside?
Yes, I heard Chris whisper the words “tower” and “flag” into his ear
Do you think Chris is responsible for Chuck’s death?
After checking my phone, I am positive Chris is responsible.
