Q

Would Chuck have given up being on the drum line for Pat?

A

No, and I was really turned off when Chuck said that even though Pat was a close friend, he wouldn’t sacrifice being on the drum line. This showed his lack of loyalty

Q

Did you like Chuck?

A

He could be really cool at times but stuck up at others. Once, after he broke up with his girlfriend, I offered to set him up with a clarinet girl that I thought he would be cute with. He gave me a cold shoulder and turned me down flat.

Q

What typically happens during the week of “Hell Week”?

A

During “Hell Week”, upperclassmen play harmless pranks on the pledges. We would never do anything to endanger any of our pledges, nor violate any anti-hazing rules or laws. Pledges must know the school fight song, detailed history of their instrument, and several harmless activities like brushing the bathroom with their toothbrush. We’ve had several pledges get harmed during their stay, but all due to their own recklessness.

Q

What events lead up to Pat going to the hospital?

A

Pat had to be rushed to be rushed to the hospital because of his own recklessness. Everyone was just hanging out when Pat forgot his inhaler. No one noticed him until he passed out. We were so worried!

Q

Why did Pat tell the police her/his story now?

A

The only reason Pat is telling these lies now is because they didn’t make the drum line. Why else would he/she report all of these things to the police now?

Q

What events lead up to Chuck’s death the night of “Hell Night”?

A

On the night of Chuck’s death, Chuck had a little much to drink at the upperclassmen’s party and kept saying how we all hated him. I told him “sometimes we get offended by your attitude but we certainly do not hate you,”. Before I brought Chuck outside, I told him “we have something special in mind for you,” When I brought Chuck outside, I whispered to him “you are going to have to raise the flag”

Q

What did Chuck do after you told him this?

A

He went nuts, tearing off is blindfold and ran towards the campus center. I could hear him yell to everyone that he was going to tell everyone how great he was. A couple of us chased him up the stairs of the clock tower. I was the first person to catch up to Chuck at the top of the clock tower. I begged him to come inside, but he said he wanted to hang the flag where everyone could see. Next, he stumbled, and when I tried to grab his shoulder to stop him, I was too late.

17
Q

Do you think Chuck might have committed suicide?

A

Maybe, he put way too much pressure on himself to be perfect

18
Q

What did you mean by “he was heading for a fall” in your texts?

A

I know it looks bad now, but I meant his attitude. How would I know he’d run up that tower!

19
Q

Did you haze the pledges at band camp?

A

No, I would never haze, the consequences are too severe, and my band director even sent me a memo warning us about it.

20
Q

Did Mr./Mrs. Thomas call you about Chuck going to him/her?

A

Yes, Mr./Mrs. Thomas called me to tell me that Chuck seemed unhappy and for me to watch out for his wellbeing. Also, he/she warned me about hazing once more.
