Pratyakṣa Jñāna
Direct knowledge
Knowledge trough the indrya’s (senses)
Parokṣa Jñāna
Implied knowledge
Gained through study, reflection, and reliance on reliable sources, such
Drawing the conclusion that it rained when you see puddles of water on the ground.
Aparokṣa Jñāna
Neither direct nor indirect knowledge
It isn’t dependent on sensory perception.
Prasthāna-traya
Fundamental texts
As the Bhagavad Gita, Upaniṣads and the Brahma Sūtras
Apara-grantha
Secondary texts
Prevents misunderstanding by the students.
Include commentaries, expositions, and supportive literature to elucidate or expand upon the ideas in the Prasthāna-traya.
Ādhidaivika Duḥkha
Suffering caused by natural or divine forces
Ādhibhautika Duḥkha
Suffering caused by external beings.
Ādhyātmika Duḥkha
Suffering from within, our mind.
