Pañca-kośa
The five sheaths or layers that cover the Ātman and give the illusion of individuality.

Manomaya-kośa

Vijñānamaya-kośa
The intellectual sheath
Includes the intellect (buddhi) responsible for decision-making and discrimination.
Ānandamaya-kośa
The bliss sheath
The causal body, experienced as happiness in deep sleep.
Upādhi
Limitation or conditioning
The sheaths that veil the true nature of the Ātman.
Ātman
The Self
The ultimate reality that remains constant and unaffected beyond all five sheaths.
Mithyā
Illusory
Refers to the sheaths as not ultimately real, but appearing real due to ignorance.
Jīva
The individual self
Identifies with the five sheaths due to ignorance (avidyā).
Āvaraṇa
The veiling aspect of ignorance.
