Task 7 Flashcards
What are theories on emotion?
- discrete theories of emotion
- dimensional theories of emotion
- appraisal theories of emotion
What are discrete theories of emotion?
Argue that there is a limited number of core emotions that are biologically determined
What are dimensional theories of emotion ?
argue that emotions could be conceptualised as points in a continious space
-> rather than discrete categories
-> no biological basis
What are appraisal theories of emotion
Argue that emotions arise from a process of comparing individual needs to external demands
-> emotions cannot be explained by only focussing on the environment or by only focussing on the individual
- reflect person-environment relationship
- EMA model as example
- criticism
> emphasis on the role of inferential processes
What is the Emotion and adaptation model (EMA)?
a computational model of appraisal:
- appraisal derivation process
> interprets a representation of the person-environment relationship to derive a set of appraisal variables
> appraisal - emotion-derivation model
> takes this set of appraisals and produces an emotional response
> focus - A set of behavioural consequence processes
> coping
input: causal interpretation
output: inference, action, perception
what is the appraisal-derivation process?
- appraisals do not change the causal interpretation but provide a continuously updated affective summary of its content
- appraisals are fast, parallel, and automatic
what is emotion derivation
- “appraisal frames build a mood”
Takes appraisals and produces an emotional response
what are types of coping in EMA - set of behaviourl consequence processes?
- attention related coping
- belief related coping
- desire related coping
- intention related coping
what is attention related coping ?
modulate the agent’s attention to features of the environment, thereby altering their emotional state by altering working memory (= causal interpretation)
ehat is belief-related copin?
Several coping strategies suggest alterations to belief states to modulate these emotional states
what is desire-related coping?
Regulates emotion by altering goal priorities
what is intention related coping?
regulates emotions by altering intentions/ taking actions
what is HRI?
- human-robot-interaction
- behaviour = mindware / software
- appearance = hardware
- behaviour > appearance
- mind perception: enhances the degree of social perception
-> improvement in overall quality of HRI
what is HCI?
- human computer interaction
- virtual (2D) robots have less influence on behaviour as 3D presence
What is cyberpsychology
discipline of understanding the psychological processes related to, and underlying, all aspects and features of technologically interconnected human behaviour
used in:
1. online behaviour and personality
2. social media use and psychological functioning
3. telepsychology
