A

TB, HIV, IG deficiency, primary ciliary dyskinesia

CHildhood infections (measles, pneumonia, whooping cough)

Localised bronchiectasis causes: space occupying lesions

What to look for on exam with bronchiectasis

A
  1. Sputum
  2. Cuntaneous - skin, yellow nails, clubbing
  3. Apex beat, RHF
  4. Complications - infections
  5. Amyloidosis

What might the CXR show in bronchiectasis?

A

Cystic lesions, streaky infiltration, thickened bronchial walls (tram tracking)

Treatment of bronchiectasis

A
  1. Clearance of sputum w twice daily postural drainage
  2. Bromchodilators +/- steroids if there’s bronchial reactivity
  3. Management of exacerbations
  4. Preventative: vaccinations, smoking cessation
  5. Treat haemoptysis
  6. Surgery/transplant
