Taenia Flashcards
• Geo of t.saginata
• other names
1- cosmopolitan ( cattle raising areas)
2- bald / beef tape worm
Morphology of t. Saginata (6)
1- adult has no rostulum or hooks ( bald )
2- mature segment is • square • testis , ovary to have eggs 🥚
3- gravid segment • longer than broad
• motile • uterus with lateral branches 15:30
4- egg is mature
5- cysticercous bovis is immature
6- adult is 10 meters
Life cycle of saginata (6)
1- adults live in small intestine
2- eggs and or gravid segments pass in stool
3- are ingested by cattle
4- in their intestine , egg hatches to onhcosphere that penetrates intestinal wall to migrate to any active ms to be cysticerous bovis
5- man is infected by ingesting undercooked meat contaminated by cysticerous bovis
6- cysticerous bovis attaches to mucosa to mature and give m , f to give eggs that take 3 months to pass in stool
Pathogensis & manifestations (10)
1- abdominal pain
2- nausea
3- vomiting
4- diahrrea
5- constipation
6- distension
7- intestinal obstruction ( either by adult or segment)
8- appendicitis by motile segment
9- cholecystitis by motile segment
10- cholangitis by motile segment
Diagnosis of saginata
1- history : unercooked meat related ?
2- clinical
3- laboratory
1- detection of egg and or gravid segments
2- anal swap
Treatment of saginata
1- praziquental
2- neclosamide
On empty stomach
3- saline purge to expel the parasite ( adult)
Inhabitants- diagnostic - infective - definitve - intermediate - mode of infection of saginata
Small intestine- egg and or gravid sepments- cysticercous bovis - man- cattle - ingestion of undercooked meat contaminated
Geo of solium
Other names
1- cosmopolitan ( pig raising areas)
2- pork tape worm
Morphology of solium (3)
1- adult has rostulum and hooks
2- gravid segment • non motile • uterus with lateral branches 7:12
3- egg can hatch in human , migrate to brain
Life cycle of solium (6)
1- adult inhabitant in small intestine
2- eggs and or gravid segments pass in stool
3- are ingested by pigs
4- in their intestine , are hatched to onhcospere that penetrate intestinal walls to migrate to any active ms becoming cysticercous cellulose
5- man is infected by ingesting undercooked meat contaminated
6- cysticercous cellulose attaches to mucosa to mature giving f , m to give eggs that take 3 months to pass in stool
Pathogensis & manifestations (8)
1- abdominal pain
2- nausea
3- vomiting
4- diahrrea
5- constipation
6- distension
7- intestinal obstruction
8- cysticercosis
Diagnosis of solium
1- history : pig related ?
2- clinical
3- laboratory
• detection of egg and or gravid segments in stool
• differs by comparing the segments or taking saline purge expelling adult and then comparing
Treatments of solium
1- praziquental
2- neclosamide
On empty stomach
3- saline purge to expel the parasite
Cysticercosis (3)
1- invasion of human tissue by cysticercous celulose
2- mode of infection
• ingestion of contaminated food by eggs
• external autoinfection : كان عنده intestinal
teansis
وبعد كده مغسلش كويس فحط ال egg ف الاكل وكل
• internal auto infection : intestinal regurgitation
• pathology : ocular cysticercosis
Neurocysticercosis : cysts & epilepsy
Inhabitants- diagnostic - infective - definitve - intermediate - mode of infection of solium
Small intestine - egg and or gravid segments- cysticercous celulose - man - man or pig
Mode of infection
Ingestion of undercooked meat contaminated with culelulose ~> intestinal taenia
Ingestion of contaminated food with eggs ~> cysticercosis
