What are the duties and responsibilities of the Tactical Air Control Party?
Primary liaison to the GFC on capabilities/limitations and control the primary terminal attack control of CAS
-Subordinate to the ASOC
What are the duties and responsibilities of a Joint Terminal Attack Controller?
A qualified and certified service member who, from a forward position, directs the action of combat aircraft engaged in close air support and other air operations
Provides ground commander recommendations on the use of CAS and its integration with ground maneuver
*QUALIFICATION
What must a JTAC know/do?
Supports immediate requests
Validate targets of opportunity
Terminal attack control
Know enemy situation/location of friendly
Integrate aircraft and fires with CAS
What roles do TACP’s fulfill when liaising?
-Aerospace advocate
-Targeting and air to ground ordnance selection

-Participate in planning sessions
-Attend Army operations briefings
What is a FAC(A)?
Foward Air Controller - Airborne
Flying TACP
Specifically trained and qualified aviation officer
Exercise control from the air of other aircraft engaged in close air support of ground troops
Authorized to perform terminal attack control
What can a FAC(A) do?
Serve as an additional controller for the TACP
Support maneuver element without TACP
Supplement the capability of a TACP
What are the FAC(A) duties and responsibilities? (and can be delegated from JTAC)
Brief: CAS briefs, BDA, 9 line
Stack: aircraft deconfliction
Mark: provide target marks for CAS attacks
Control: final release authority

What are the duties and responsibilities of a Joint Fires Observer?
Request, adjust, and control surface to surface fires
Provide timely and accurate CAS targeting information
Perfm autonomous terminal guidance operations
JTAC/FAC(A) with weapons release authority is required to provide terminal attack control for CAS missions

Refraction from snow, rain, fog dust
Also called backscatter
What is beam divergence?
Spot size increases at a distance
What is spillover?
If laser is larger than target, diameter will refract giving multiple reflections
