What is Suppression of Enemy of Air Defense?
Activity that neutralizes, destroys, or temporarily degrades surface-based enemy air defenses by destructive and / or disruptive means
What is JSEAD?
A broad term that includes all SEAD activities provided by one component of the joint force in support

Area of responsibility / joint operations area

What is AOR / JOA wide SEAD?
Conducted against specific enemy AD systems throughout the AOR / JOA to degrade or destroy their major capabilities / effectiveness
Immediate objective is to destroy or disrupt the enemy’s IADS
Looking for C2 and early warning radar
What is localized suppression?
Operations that are normally confined to geographic areas associated with specific targets or transit routes for a specific time
Can be planned or immediate
What is opportune suppression?
Unplanned
Continuous operation involving immediate response to acquired targets of opportunity
What are the means of SEAD?
Destructive and disruptive
What does the destructive means of SEAD mean?
Seek the destruction of the target system or operating personnel

What does the disruptive means of SEAD mean?
Temporarily deny, degrade, deceive, delay or neutralize enemy surface AD systems
Can be active or passive
What is the purpose of planning joint electronic warfare?
Coordinate their planned activities with other aspects of military operations that use the EMS, as well as third party users that EW does not wish to disrupt
