What way is salmonella (food-poisoning) spread?
Through food contaminated with bacteria.
4 symptoms of salmonella:
Fever, stomach cramps, diarrhoea and vomiting.
What is the treatment for salmonella? (2)
Can be treated at home and usually dissolved within 3-5 days by staying hydrated and resting. In severe cases you may need an IV drip.
4 ways you can prevent salmonella:
- Properly cooking foods
- Washing your hand/fruits/vegetables
- Not cross-contaminating between food groups
- Keeping raw meats at the bottom of the fridge
What are the 2 ways Gonorrhoea is spread?
Through unprotected sex and childbirth.
4 symptoms of Gonorrhoea:
- Thick yellow discharge
- Infected penis, vagina, anus, throat etc.
- Pain urinating
- Female abdominal pain
What is the treatment for Gonorrhoea?
A cocktail of antibiotics (oral/injections).
How is Gonorrhoea prevented? (2)
Condoms (safe sex) and getting screened before sexual contact.
3 facts about Gonorrhoea:
Second most common STI after chlamydia, can lead to infertility and increases risk of HIV.
Viruses: (3)
Pathogens: HIV, influenza and Herpes.
Bacteria: (3)
Pathogens: Gonorrhoea and salmonella.
Non-pathogens: E-coli.
Fungi: (3)
Pathogens: Thrush and athletes foot.
Non-pathogens: Bakers yeast.
