What is a pathogen?
A micro-organism that causes an infectious disease.
What is a communicable disease?
An infection that can be spread from one organism to another.
What is a non communicable disease?
A disease that is not spread from one organism to another, usually caused by genetics or lifestyle factors.
What are the 4 types of micro-organisms?
Bacteria, Virus, Fungi and Protist.
Name 5 ways that diseases are spread:
Contaminated food/water, direct contact, insect bites, sexual contact and contaminated surfaces/air.
Why do pathogens make us feel ill?
As bacteria reproduce they produce toxins which harm our cells/ make us feel ill.
What is the difference between bacteria and viruses?
Some bacteria are safe but all viruses are harmful as they damage/ hijack your cells. They divide and use your cells to reproduce.
