What is CURB65 used for and what does it stand for?
Used to assess severity of pneumonia. It stand for Confusion, [Urea] in blood, Respiratory rate (is it raised?), Blood pressure, and aged >65
What antibiotic would be used for community acquired pneumonia?
Beta lactam antibiotic (amoxicillin) or Doxycycline
What antibiotic would be used to treat not severe hospital acquired pneumonia?
Amoxicillin with Doxycycline or just Doxycycline
What antibiotic would be used to treat severe hospital acquired pneumonia?
Amoxicillin and temocillin or Ceftriaxone/Levofloxacin
in individuals aged 18-60, how long does it take for 95% of pneumonia to be cleared?
6 weeks
What factors slow down clearance of pneumonia?
Comorbidities, bacteraemia, multilobe involvement, or gram-negative bacilli pneumonia
What does CPAP stand for?
Continuous positive airway pressure
If all other forms of oxygenation fail, what can be concidered?
ECMO (Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation)
What is pleural parapneumonic effusion?
The accumulation of exudative pleural fluid (fluid that has leaked out of vessels)
When would a pneumocystis jiroveci infection occur?
Only in the immunosuppressed
