T2 L11: Energy during exercise Flashcards
Which vascular receptors result in vasodilation?
Beta-2 adrenoreceptors
What is the mechanism behind lactate accumilation?
When the oxygen supply is insufficient so lactate forms faster than it can be oxidised
What can cause a decline in force generated by a muscle?
Pyruvate accumulation because it decreases muscle pH and glycolysis is inhibited by H+
What are Catecholamines?
Molecules that help the body respond to stress
What is meant by ‘hitting a wall’?
When exercise intensity drops because of lack of ATP. Fatty acid oxidation only generates 50% of maximum power output
What are some symptoms of hypoglycaemia?
Dizziness, lack of cognitive function, lactis acidosis, confusion
