T1L2 Skull and cranial cavity Flashcards
What is the innervation to the scalp
Trigeminal nerve
spinal cutaneous nerves
What are the 2 layers of the dura mater
endosteal
meningeal
What is the nerve supply to the dura mater
CN 5 10, C1-3, Sympathetic
What is the blood supply to the dura
mater
middle meningeal artery
What does the falx cerebri seperate?
Seperates cerebral hemispheres
What does the tentorium cerebelli seperate?
Seperates cerebellar hemispheres from cerebral hemispheres
What does the falx cerebelli do?
Seperates cerebellar hemispheres
Describe the arachnoid mater
Thin, avascular layer between pia and dura
Loosely applied layer with projections (arachnoid granulations)
What can damage to MMA cause?
Extradural (Epidural) haematoma
What can cause a tentorial herniation?
space occupying lesion causing herniation of temporal lobe
What structure produces CSF?
produced by choroid plexus in brain ventricles
What is leptomeningitis
Infection and inflammation in the arachnoid and pia mater (the leptomeninges).
Infection may enter the subarachnoid space and enter into the blood (septicemia).
What is the main blood supply to the brain?
ICA and vertebral arteries
What does the anterior cerebral supply?
- medial and superior surfaces of the brain
- frontal pole.
What does the middle cerebral supply?
- lateral surfaces
- temporal pole
