T tests Flashcards
define standard deviation
spread of data around the mean
what does a p value greater than 0.05 (5%) mean
there is MORE than 5% probability that the result is due to chance
there is NO significant difference
what does a p value smaller than 0.05 mean
there is LESS than 5% probability that the result is due to chance
there IS a significant difference
what does overlap between standard deviations mean
no significant difference
what is a null hypothesis
there is no significant difference
so result is due to chance
when do we accept the null hypothesis
when p value is ABOVE 0.05
there is no significant difference
when do we reject the null hypothesis
when p value is BELOW 0.05
there is a significant difference
what is meant by a significant difference
means the results are NOT due to chance
